MISSION

Every team consists of team members who play different roles in the team. This mission asks you to identify which role you are most attracted to in a team and to reflect why you feel this role suits you .

So your mission is:

  1. Identify which of Belbin’s 9 team roles is the best fit for you when working in a team
  2. REQUIRED EVIDENCE – When you are ready to apply for the badge, you will be asked to identify this role and to explain why you feel this role suits you by comparing the typical strengths and allowed weaknesses of the team role. Since most people are comfortable in more than one role, you will also be asked to select a second team role that you are comfortable to perform.

MISSION

Using Gibbs’ (1988) model, reflect on an experience of working in a team.
This team might be a study team where you worked collaboratively on a project, a sports team, a society or volunteer organisation, a team in the workplace or any situation where several individuals worked together to try and achieve a common goal.

The key, of course, is to effectively manage conflict situations thus avoiding the damaging consequences of unresolved conflict which can lead to teams breaking down.

So how do you deal with conflict? First take a look at this video for some ideas of how to deal with conflict:

MISSION

Take the Conflict Styles Assessment at the United States Institute of Peace.

REQUIRED EVIDENCE

When you APPLY for this badge you will be asked to:

  1. Identify the conflict style that you tend to use most frequently (i.e. the first one in the list on the results page) and reflect on whether this is an accurate reflection of your preferred style
  2. Identify the conflict style that you tend to use least frequently (i.e. the last one in the list on the results page) and reflect on whether or not you should use this style more frequently
